The worst "reporter" I've dealt with was Jeffrey Gettleman, when he worked for The Los Angeles Times. Gettleman is the originator of the "quote" cited by Michael Chaney in his comment above. Gettleman attributed the quote to me in an Aug. 21, 2001, story he wrote for the L.A. paper. I never said it. He made it up. Hagerfiker comment. Well said Ato Omer. Jeffrey Gettlman is working very hard on winning Pulitzer Prizes for investigative journalism. Unfortunately for Gettlman he thought he would be able to report unchallenged. The timely reports from the MoFA and other media outlets are exposing Gettlman for his unprofessional and unverifiable reports. This will go a long way in killing his aspiration. Sadly, truth be told, the west only sends it's inexperienced and lower skilled journalists to cover events in Africa. Therefore, we should not be surprised by the poor quality produced by these incompetent journalists. Nonetheless, the lies spewed by Gettlman need a quick and strong response. In the age if internet folks are doing their research in the web. Therefore, any harmful propaganda that goes unanswered will leave a black mark on our history. A response to the lies by Gettlman will serve as a reference for anyone who is researching Gettlemans articles. Any search of his name in internet search engines i.e. Google and yahoo, will not only pull up his work but that of his critics such as Walta, MoFA and others. This will no doubt hamper his aspirations and put in place a check and balance of his fictional reporting.

A must listen Interview!

Please listen to the following interview posted on Ben's page regarding the families who lost family members during the election riots. This interview is a a blow to the Berhanu nega Birtikwan coalition. On the flip side it is a coup for the Hailu Shawel side. Good old Hailu sure did pull a fast one on the Berhanu gang.

Lastly we express our sympathy for tragedy which faced the family members during the riots. We pray that they find the peace which will soothe their pain. We also cannot help but comment about the political spin being made from there loses. While we have no doubt that their pain is genuine, we were surprised that they were claiming that in Ethiopia people are not allowed to express themselves or their feelings. This sentiment was expressed by several of the family members interviewed. While they claim the government did not allow free expression, they were sitting on the government controlled telecom, expressing their anti government sentiments (not for the first time) without any fear of retribution. These kind of cheap political shots only work in favor of the EPRDF. No matter how much one may hate the EPRDF, Ethiopians are no dummies and they do notice the obvious hypocrisy from someone who uses her free speech to express she has no free speech. They also notice that it is done with no fear of government retaliation. They also notice that these people have been interviewed before and obviously no action was taken against them.

Fact or Fiction?

Issayas and his cronies were sitting in a conference room strategizing about how to extricate themselves out from the economic mess they found themselves in. They were bitter about the isolation and lack of hard currency. Everything that could go wrong was going or wrong or had already gone wrong. Issayas was desperate for a solution and encouraged his thugs to come up with a plan. One of his handpicked side kick came up with what he believed to be a brilliant plan. He proudly presented the idea to the group having no doubt that the group will admire his brilliant plan.

He explained to the group that they should put in a plan to goad the USA into a war. His plan was based on the assumption that the USA would win and occupy Eritrea. In his mind this would take a bite out of Ethiopia's leverage. Furthermore he added that if the USA defeats Eritrea and occupies her, she will implement development projects and rebuild the country and its economy.

Issayas for a moment pondered the idea making the group think that he would buy into the idea. He scratched his chin, took a shot of Whiskey and the great idea light went on in his head. He stated to the group that he thought it was a great idea. However he stated that in his infinite wisdom, he saw a major flaw in that idea. Issayas with that stupid "I am brilliant" grin posed what he thought was a great question. He looked at the group and asked them, "What if we defeat the USA? That means we would have to rebuild America". On that great thought he shot the idea down and took another shot of whiskey to reward himself for his great wisdom.

Hagerfiker Comment; this may have been a sexy story about a strong people had it been written 20 years ago when the EPLF was in the mountains waging a civil war. Today Shabia is a government and what they succeeded in doing is transferring desperate living style and standarad from Nakfa to Asmara. This story tells how Eritrea has gone backwards.

Nazret.com has done it again.

After PM Meles won the vote yesterday they stopped the vote and had another vote. They used the excuse of a run off to justify the revote. Now once again the PM got more votes than anyone else. They stopped the voting and announced that they will now have a runoff between PM Meles and Birtikwan. If PM Meles wins that vote, we have no doubt they will stop that vote and have a runoff between PM Meles and PM Meles. Trust us this may happen. Nonetheless, it does not matter if PM Meles wins or not. Whether he wins or loses does not make a difference. We just wanted to point out to what length the Diaspora will go to fudge the numbers.

Atse Hailu Shawel was coronated yesterday as King of all Paltalkers.

In an amazing display of intrigue and Tenkole the Diaspora Paltalk community yesterday was presented with a well orchestrated coronation of Aste Hailu Shawel. The organizers of the coronation were very well organized and managed to coordinate and bring to Paltalk many members of the now dead CUD leadership. One after another they took turns glorifying the almighty Hailu Shawel basically putting him one notch below the almighty LORD! One such leader stated that without Hailu Shawel CUD could not exist. To which the Paltalk room displayed flowers and appreciation. Aste Hailu now sits on his throne on a frozen pond in Minnesota.

On the flip side, the CUD'ites who support Berhanu Nega and Birikwan Mideksa were handed their heads on the platter by the Hailu Shawel faction. The one thing the coronation managed to do is show that the Hailu Shawel faction owns the core leadership of the now defunct CUD. It also is doing a better job convincing the folks in Ethiopia that the Hailu Shawel factions' dead corpse smells better than the Berhanu faction dead corpse. At the end of the day, it's about whose funeral turns out more supporters.

Aste Hailu , a King that does not come through Mariam Tsion in Axum will never sit in Menelik Palace as Emperor! Ask Janahoi!
